
The Lightning Process® is a technique which enables people to stop running destructive or limiting patterns and retrain the brain to learn or reconnect new neural pathway. Studies from neuroscience show that the brain is capable of relearning habits and motor skills, a phenomenon termed neuroplasticity, meaning the brain is adaptable and changeable.
Any new skill or habit is initially learned with some degree of consciousness or thought but after consistent repetition and rehearsal the pattern/ habit becomes established as a programme in the hippocampus. The hippocampus now runs the programme for us automatically and this is often referred to as being in autopilot. This means there is a part of the brain which is now controls responses ( the pilot ) rather than that part of the brain used for rational judgement and conscious choice. Examples of when this is really useful would be when we go into autopilot driving a car, riding a bike, walking, turning automatically to the correct space to look for the time/ bin etc.
The brain learns regardless of whether the material being learnt is good for us or not- it simply learns. Sometimes we learn to do things which are not useful or healthy for us, although initially they may have seemed useful strategies.
